Medical Mutual integrates professional liability insurance with legal defence to protect doctors across Maryland from the financial and reputational cost of litigation. With over 100 employees, they are a key employer in the area, and the leading provider of medical professional liability insurance for Maryland Physicians.
The Problem
In 2018, Medical Mutual sought ExeQut’s support to re-engineer their company intranet to deliver a more consistent, faster, and scalable experience. New employees and new cases put pressure on the legacy intranet solution. It struggled to deliver a consistent experience in common use cases and made scaling and future proofing a difficult proposition.

Challenges
As a growing local organization, Medical Mutual needed a comprehensive intranet solution, delivered at scale. They also needed to implement challenging custom implementations to meet their specific medical liability insurance use cases. However, because of the resources spent on an earlier abortive migration project, they were both time and budget-constrained.
ExeQut leveraged an agile methodology, with rapid iteration and client feedback playing key roles. This allowed us to deliver a viable solution at minimal cost, within a narrow time-frame.
Our Solution
In 2019, ExeQut worked with Medical Mutual and their IT team to design, iterate, and implement a reengineered intranet solution based on Sharepoint. By leveraging a rapid iteration process that included focus testing employees and stakeholders at Medical Mutual, we were able to architect the new SharePoint-based intranet solution in just over one month.
The intranet’s retooled homepage featured key functionality recommended by focus group members. This included easy access to events and meeting planning, internal news, and access to vital documents and case files. Internal requests — to HR, operations, and other departments — could now be made straight from the homepage for a seamless and pain-free experience.
The Communication and Teams pages enabled easy collaboration and communication between Medical Mutual employees , minimising delays and technical bottlenecks.
ExeQut leveraged a combination of out-of-the-box functions and custom code to deliver a SharePoint intranet solution that perfectly matched Medical Mutual’s needs. To ensure continuity and a seamless hand-off, we educated management, staff, and Medical Mutual’s IT team about the new system, with a particular focus on the custom design aspects.

Medical Mutual’s feedback on our SharePoint intranet solution was succinct. It fully addressed the challenges their staff faced with their legacy system and exceeded their expectations. After implementing our solution, SharePoint usage increased by a remarkable 68 percent as staff members made full use of the productivity possibilities.
Medical Mutual was so happy with their SharePoint intranet that different Medical Mutual functional departments, from HR to IT to Accounts, brainstormed new opportunities for SharePoint integration that we’re currently helping them realise.
